Hirsutism (excessive hair growth) in women is a sign of hormone imbalance. It is usually associated with irregular menstral periods or infertility. In hirusitsm male hormone level in females body increases due to which excessive hair growth results.
Females who have excess and thick hair on their face, chest, abdomen and back may suffer from hirsutism. Acne, deepening of voice, increased muscles mass and decreased breast size are also some other symptoms of hirsutism.
Polycystic ovaries syndrome(PCOS) and Cushing syndrome are the major causes of hirsutism. Some medicines may also cause this like anabolic steroids and medicines use to treat females with endometriosis. Hirsutism may also be inherited.
One can use medicines to control the male hormone level in body to overcome hirsutism. However, shaving, waxing, threading, bleaching , electrolysis or other hair removal method can be use to hide the excessive hair growth.
